    Position Summary

    The Substation Design Project Manager will provide detailed designs of new substation layouts, create design documents, technical specifications, drawings, and prepare design calculations for new substation projects including electrical plans, schematics, bills of materials, and equipment specifications. Additionally, the successful candidate will play a vital role in the growth of our substation engineering services and will utilize his/her exceptional leadership skills and strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to successfully deliver world-class engineering projects, while also serving as a senior resource in developing new business.

     

    What you’ll be doing

     

    • Design substations using client standards or developing new standards.
    • Create the physical substation design which includes the layout, plans, all details, protection schemes, grounding, control building arrangements, lightning protection, bill of materials, relay protection, SCADA systems and communications and design of all other equipment found within a substation footprint.
    • Create calculations required for all studies and client reports.
    • Develop control and protection designs which include equipment wiring and relay wiring, AC and DC schematics, panel arrangements, one lines/single lines and three lines.
    • Assist in field work as requested.
    • Review vendor submittals and perform technical evaluation of bids and make recommendations.
    • Assist in the education and development of less experienced engineers and act as a resource for design and technical questions.
    • Drive and maintain a solid relationship with clients through the execution of high-quality work and meeting deadlines.
    • Perform design quality reviews for projects.
    • Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced engineers.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for the client and all project stakeholders.
    • Lead business development efforts through relationship building.

     

     Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Ability to manage various projects simultaneously.
    • Ability to communicate effectively through active listening, presentation skills, and strong verbal and written skills.
    • Sound knowledge and understanding of applicable engineering codes.
    • Ability to work hard and efficiently within a team to achieve goals.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills.

     

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Civil, or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited school is required.
    • PE License is required.
    • Minimum 10 years related design experience with substation facilities.

    • Must be able to life and/or move up to 25 pounds on occasion.
    • May be required to travel to visit a client’s office or construction job site.
    • Due to the collaborative nature of this position and accessibility for in-house and on-site client meetings, it is important that the work be performed in the office and during normal business hours.
    • This job operates in a professional office environment.
